Getting ready for home

Scott and I are trying to pack up our suitcases and get ready for the departure to Anchorage tomorrow. My flight leaves Kenai at 5:25 p.m. and I will arrive in Anchorage about 6:00 p.m. Scott and the other 2 guys will be driving to Anchorage after they drop me off at the Kenai airport. Their trip will be about 3 hours to drive. Scott, Chuck and I have rented a car to get around Anchorage with. MMS is paying for that. Scott and Chuck flies out of Anchorage on Sunday evening at 7:20p.m. and arrive in Pittsburgh on Monday about 11:40 a.m., I leave Saturday night (actually Sunday a.m.) at 12:40 a.m. and arrive in Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. I have a hotel that I am staying in to wait for Scott to arrive. We have a ride back to Coshocton, which is a 2 hour drive. Then Scott and I plan on driving to NC to pick up our boys. We should be back home by Thursday since we have doctors appts.

That is the plan as of now. Please pray for safety in travels.

Coming to you live from Alaska....

We are entering our last week here in Alaska and God has been so good. He has blessed us with very nice and clear weather and we have had a blast seeing his beauty all around. We have also seen the huge need for Missionary Aviation here. Just as cars are important to the lower 48, airplanes are here. It is the only transportation into and out of the villages in the bush. There are so many villages of 100-200 people out there and many pastors and their wives living among the villages who need to be cared for too. They need to know that they are not alone in this journey and that they can get the supplies needed to do their jobs there effectively. It is just as I learned and thought only existed in other countries. Alaska is like a 3rd world country of its own. They don't live by agenda's, which may drive me nuts, and will show up unannounced for days on end. Sounds a lot like the Philippines. Life is slower and more enjoyed and people genuinely care for each other and do for each other, not just with their mouth but they put actions into work. I have seen it happen.

It is true Missions at its best. Hard to believe we are still in "America". Alaskans do not feel a part of the lower 48 and often refer to the lower 48 as "America". It is like Alaska and America are two different countries. Many people here are from Michigan. Too funny. Lots of transplants here. :-)

Well, we are enjoying our last days here and desire your prayers as we journey home and on to pick up our boys. We can't wait to all be together again. :-)

Alaska...another update

God is so amazing! I have arrived safely and am trying to get onto their time zone schedule. The days are long here at the moment...like at midnight it is still like 4 in the afternoon. They have to put things over their windows to be able to go to sleep and make it dark. This is very strange. The people here are so dear and precious. The land reminds me of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan a lot and the weather reminds me of Seattle. :-) Life seems much slower here and the importance of people seem to out weigh the importance of "stuff and agenda's" like at home. Relationships are deeper and "keeping up with the Jones" lifestyle is not really important. Folks seems to be there for each other and not just in words but actually put action behind their mouth. Very cool to witness and see it in action. I have only been here 2 days and this truth is very much displayed.

I have taken so many photos and Scott has added them to his Flickr site. Check it out often as he is really trying to keep posting new photos every day or two.

We are scheduling times to meet with different organizations and their wives to discuss what options are out there and needs. Please pray that God will give us wisdom and the right questions to ask. We desire to be in His will and for Him to be our Captain and steer our ship.

Alaska...What is God saying?

Yes, by now you know that I am on my way to Alaska as well. This trip came up very suddenly to us but not to God as He has orchestrated this whole thing. God has something very mighty in store for us during this next 2 weeks. I am looking very forward to traveling with Jesus as my traveling companion and spending a lot of time with Him in my journey there. I am expecting to see great things and to hear from the Lord on my trip there. I can't wait to see what He is up to. He has been so faithful and encouraging to me during this past week or so and I am so excited about the future serving Him.

Scott has had a great chance to meet many different organizations out there and has seen the HUGE need for aviation and missions there. Mechanics are very needed as there is less of them than pilots. The opportunities are Huge there and so I am going out to get a sense of what the Lord might be saying as well.

The boys are very excited about me going and are in great favor of it. They even said to me that they felt dad and I could meet and hear from God a lot better with out the 4 of them with us. They are very excited to see what the Lord says as well. I pray that I will not be a distraction to the work Scott is out there to do but rather, a prayer warrior who can spend a lot of time seeking His face and will for our lives.

Thank you for your prayer and for your support. God has opened many doors for this trip to happen. Too many to be just a coincidence. I am currently sitting in Pittsburgh waiting to board my plan and the journey has begun. I feel very strange being alone in the physical sense as the boys are in NC with my family. It is just God and me hanging out. :-)
