Summer is full of surprises...

June 13, 2006

Just wanted to give everyone a little update on what has been going on to the Lazaros Family so far this summer...I know, it has just started but to us, a lot has happened.

First of all, our time in Virginia was wonderful. It was great to see the family. We had a safe trip and really enjoyed the time together as a family.

After we got back, Scott had a doctors appointment for a physical. It had been over a year and we just wanted to make sure all was good. We did not get the news that we were expecting. The doctor heard a heart murmur and sent him for some more testing. He has had one of them and we are still waiting on the results. The other one is not until July 25th, that was the soonest I could get him in. While waiting on those results, we received the results of his blood work. He has high cholesterol and was told to go on a low fat, low cholesterol diet with daily exercise plus start taking "these" pills. We have been on a "healthy" diet since March due to my new health kick, so the only thing to really change is his exercise habit. Today he woke up early and started. He used the nordic track and worked out before work. I am very proud of him. We really want to avoid the "pills" due to they can cause liver damage and after he starts them, he is to be tested in 6 weeks and again in 12 to see if any liver damage has been done.

I have still been going to the doctor for my foot. Dr. Fong has no idea what it is. I had the MRI and the results showed nothing. Nothing was there. Dr. Fong called the radiologist and spoke to her directly, even had her pull the film again because he said he saw something and felt something and wanted to know what he was dealing with. At least it wasn't a tumor. He just didn't want to go in blind and wanted to make sure he was prepared for what he would find. She agreed to personally do an ultrasound on the foot but was going to be on vacation this week and since I was going to be gone next week we had to wait until the 26th. Yesterday I had my appointment with the dermatologist. I went thinking he would just look at my foot, give me some cream and say "see ya in 2 weeks". What I didn't know was that he would walk in and say what he did and do what he did. I wasn't ready for that. He walked in, never asked about my history of diabetes and said, "I see this often, especailly in women, it is a sign of diabetes. I will do a biopsy and some blood work to confirm my diagnosis and see you back in a week or so. You will walk out of here today in stitches! I will give you some steriod cream to put on the red areas but not to the biopsy site." Wow! He said he was really surprised that the doctor and the podiatrist didn't realize what this was. I am going this morning for my blood work. I know that the last time I did this test, my numbers were a little high. I am now very concerned. That was one reason I changed my eating habits and started working out was to avoid insulin shots. I really would appreciate your prayers for this test. I know God is in control and all but I really feel Scott and I are being hit really hard with warfare. We feel we are not even 40 yet and already falling apart. We really don't want our boys to grow up and have to deal with this, so we want to learn to teach them how to be "healthy" and how to avoid these issues.

The boys are at Springhill Camp this week and I am sure having a blast. Please remember them and Jeremiah, who is so lost without his brothers. I am really having fun with our one on one time, but I do miss the others too.

I just wanted to bring everyone up onto the same page with all that has been going on. I pray that your summer is going smoothly and that you are all Healthy!! Love you all and appreciate you so much. Thank you for everything!

Blessings,
Lela and boyz~
